GREEN WATER GHOST
A Luanne Fogarty Mystery

I moved up and down the pond floor, poking and brushing at anything that might be bone. I had begun at the center and moved to the west side, up and back the whole time. When I was near the bank, I hit the jackpot. One lone bone had poked itself above the mud. I pulled on it and found its knee joint attached. It didn't take a medical examiner to see, even in pond murkiness, that someone had hacked at this bone and missed the point. I moved to the surface, bone in hand and raised it above the water before my face hit air. From that moment, things changed.
